The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the State of Nevada as one of six Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS) Designated Test Sites for drones. The Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems (NIAS), identified Reno-Stead Airport as one of the testing ranges available in the state of Nevada for UAS testing.

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) or drones, have been mainly used by the military, but governments, businesses, farmers and others are making plans to join the market. Many universities, including the University of Nevada, Reno, are starting or expanding drone programs.
